ShowXpress Configuration

This section is intended to familiarize you with the interaction between MediaStar and the ShowXpress application. It is highly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the Builder tool and create a few test scenes before doing these steps

1) Keystroke Setup

MediaStar notifies ShowXpress that a new DMX scene needs to be played via a keystroke. Unfortunately, these keystrokes are not enabled by default which will cause the notification process to fail. To remedy this, you need to replace one file in the ShowXpress folder. First right-click on THIS LINK and choose the Save As option.

A dialog will appear asking you where you want to save this file. The default location for the ShowXpress folder is "C:\Program Files\ShowXpress". Browse to this folder and overwrite the "inputs.ini" file if it exists. Unless you have done this, MediaStar will not be able to activate DMX scenes.

2) Creating Macros

Once you have created some scenes in Builder, its time to enable them as Macros in the "user" application. The "user" application is not started from the ShowXpress control board, but from the start menu under ShowXpress. Before starting, please make sure that Builder is not running.

To start, turn on DMX, click on the SCENE tab, and then select "Creation Area" in the top right.

In the bottom right you will see every scene that you created in Builder. Select each scene and press the double-arrow button to add them to the working area. Once you have done this, click on the newly a created scene button in the working area. You will notice that the scene starts playing and that the button is visually held down.

Now its time to create a macro for the scene that is playing. To do so, click on the MACRO tab and select the creation area. Then select a macro in the upper box that you want to save to. You can rename the macro by typing in the little box above ("Lights" in the picture). Once the macro is selected and renamed, click the save button (Image of a floppy disk), and the macro will be created.

3) Wrapup

Make sure to test your macros to be sure that the correct scenes were saved under them. Also, note that when setting up DMX scenes in MediaStar, the number for the DMX scene is just the number of the macro that you have created.
